Disney was born in Chicago in 1901 and raised in Missouri, as the fourth son among five siblings. His father, Elias, was a domineering figure who was allegedly abusive. He was unsuccessful to make ends meet for the family. His older brothers, one by one, ran off from home to escape their father.
