Solution

The chemical reaction in which a single compound or substance is decomposed into two or more simple products is called decomposition reaction.

Examples:

When lead oxide is heated, it decomposes into lead and oxygen.

\(\rm PbO\) → \(\rm 2Pb\) + \(\rm O_{2}\)

When water is electrolysed, it gives hydrogen and oxygen.(electrolytic decomposition)

\(\rm 2H_{2}O\) → \(\rm 2H_{2}\)+ \(\rm O_{2}\)
